PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lessons at Jitterbug are about finding the thing that makes your child light up - and giving them the space, encouragement, and one-on-one attention to explore it.

We offer individualized instruction in piano, voice, beginner guitar, ukulele, wind instruments, audition preparation, and acting. Wind instrument lessons are especially great for middle school students who want a little extra support alongside their school band experience, while our audition prep lessons can help students prepare songs, monologues, sides, or simply build confidence before walking into the room.

And your child doesn't have to fit neatly into one box! A voice student may spend a lesson preparing for an upcoming audition. A piano student might want to learn the chords to a favorite song. An acting student may need help preparing a monologue for a school production.

Private lessons give us the freedom to meet each student exactly where they are - and help them discover where they want to go.

Before we can teach a child to play a scale, sing with healthy technique, master a new chord, or confidently deliver a monologue, we want them to feel known, comfortable, and excited to walk through the door.

Every child is different. Some students arrive ready to practice every day and race through their lesson books. Others have a packed schedule and simply need one consistent space each week to make music, create, and reconnect with something they love. Some thrive on structure and goals. Others learn best when their teacher follows their curiosity.

Our teachers have the flexibility and experience to adjust their approach to the child in front of them while never losing sight of our core value: connection first.

Our goal isn't simply to create technically strong musicians and performers. We want to nurture curious, confident kids who feel safe trying something difficult, making mistakes, asking questions, discovering what they're capable of, and developing a genuine love for their art.

Technique matters. Progress matters. But we believe both happen best when a child is connected to their teacher, connected to what they're learning, and genuinely curious about what comes next.

Our most popular option is a weekly recurring 30-minute private lesson for $45 per lesson.

When you enroll in recurring lessons, we reserve your student's dedicated lesson day and time for the entire school year, giving them consistency with their teacher and the opportunity to build meaningful momentum week after week.

Need something more flexible? Non-recurring 30-minute lessons are $50 per session and can be booked individually based on teacher availability.

For recurring students, tuition is calculated based on the total number of lessons in the semester and divided into equal installments, making your payments consistent even when the number of lessons in an individual month varies.

What age can my child start private lessons?

We welcome private lesson students as young as 3 years old!

For our youngest musicians, lessons tend to look a little different. Around age 3, we focus more heavily on general music concepts, exploration, rhythm, listening, movement, and becoming comfortable with an instrument. At this age, our biggest goal is to establish the basics while sparking joy and curiosity around music.

By around age 4, many of our students are ready to dive more fully into piano, voice, or another area of focus. Every child develops differently, though, and we'll always meet your student where they are.

When are private lessons available?

We typically have private lesson spots available most weekday afternoons, with our regular private lesson hours generally running from 3:00 PM-7:30 PM.

Need something outside of those hours? Just ask! Depending on instructor availability, we may be able to accommodate an earlier lesson time or even something later in the evening. Our Studio Operations team is happy to double-check our teachers' schedules and help find an option that works for your family.

We also offer Sunday private lessons, which can be a great option for families with packed weekday schedules.

At this time, we do not offer private lessons on Saturdays.

Availability varies by instructor, instrument, and area of focus, so if you don't immediately see the perfect time, reach out! We'll always do our best to find the right teacher and schedule fit for your student.

Can I try a lesson for free?

Yes!

If your family is completely new to Jitterbug - or you've participated in camps, classes, clubs, shows, or other Jitterbug programming but have never taken a private lesson with us - you're welcome to book a FREE trial lesson.

It's a chance for your child to meet one of our teachers, experience the private lesson environment, and see if it feels like a good fit before enrolling.

Do you offer hour-long lessons?

Yes! We absolutely offer 60-minute private lessons.

That said, we typically recommend that new students start with 30 minutes - even if they're interested in exploring more than one skill or area of focus. You can accomplish a surprising amount in a focused 30-minute lesson!

We generally encourage hour-long lessons for students who are a little older, have developed the stamina for a longer one-on-one session, and are ready for a more focused and committed lesson experience.

If your student eventually reaches a point where their teacher feels like they're consistently running out of time and would benefit from a longer lesson, we're always happy to talk about moving up to an hour!

Does my child have to stick with only one instrument or area of focus?

Not at all! In fact, we love when our students want to explore.

Many of our private lesson students combine two areas of focus - piano and voice, voice and acting, piano and songwriting, or another combination that interests them.

Some students love dividing each lesson in half between two focuses. Others might spend one week primarily working on piano and the next on voice. And sometimes a student comes in completely excited about something new, and we follow that curiosity!

We never want a child to feel like choosing private lessons means choosing one box they have to stay inside. Curiosity is a huge part of how we learn. Our teachers have the flexibility to follow a student's interests while still providing the structure and consistency they need to grow.

Private lessons should be a place where students feel the freedom to explore, experiment, discover new interests, and figure out what they love.

Can I sit in on my child's lesson?

For your child's first lesson, we'd love to invite you in! Come meet their teacher, see the space, and help your child get comfortable.

After that - we've got this!

Building the confidence to walk into the lesson room independently, connect with their teacher, make choices, ask questions, and take ownership of their learning is an important part of our private lesson philosophy.

Do I have to commit for the entire school year?

When you enroll in weekly recurring lessons, we reserve your family's lesson day and time for the entire school year.

We love this model because consistency is such an important part of building a relationship between student and teacher. Your child knows exactly when they're coming, your teacher gets to know them deeply, and we can build on their progress from week to week.

We understand that circumstances can change, though, which is why recurring enrollment can be cancelled with 30 days' notice.

Can I change my lesson day or time in the middle of the year?

Absolutely - as long as another option is available!

If your preferred day, time, and teacher have availability, we're happy to make the adjustment. Reach out to our Studio Operations team and we'll help you explore the available options.

Can I cancel my weekly recurring lessons before the end of the school year?

Yes. We simply require 30 days' notice to discontinue recurring private lessons.

Any scheduled lessons that fall within that 30-day period may still be used. Lessons that are not used during that period will be forfeited.

What happens if my child has to miss a lesson?

We have a 48-hour cancellation policy for weekly recurring lessons, with exceptions for illness and emergencies.

Lessons cancelled more than 48 hours in advance may qualify for a make-up lesson based on teacher availability. Lessons cancelled within 48 hours are generally forfeited unless the absence is due to illness or an emergency.
